Stephen Murdoch is Chief Executive Officer at Micro Focus, a FTSE 250 multinational software company headquartered in Newbury in the UK. Micro Focus helps organisations run and transform their business, providing the critical tools they need to build, operate, secure and analyse their enterprise, bridging between existing and emerging technologies. Micro Focus was established in 1976 and has over 14,000 employees in 43 countries, serving over 40,000 customers worldwide.

Stephen joined Micro Focus in 2012, first serving as General Manager of the Product Group and Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for all software product and services offerings development, customer services, corporate marketing and strategy. In 2014 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, having responsibility for sales and marketing, product strategy, development and management, services and business operations.

In September 2017 Micro Focus merged with the software business unit of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, creating one of the largest software companies in the world, focused from the ground up on building, selling, and supporting software. Stephen was appointed CEO of the combined business in March 2018 and is a member of the Board.

Prior to Micro Focus Stephen spent 7 years at Dell, first building Dell’s Global Infrastructure Consulting Services organisation, and then leading its business in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before Dell Stephen had 17 years’ experience at IBM, latterly serving as Vice President, Communications Sector with responsibility for the entire telco, media, and utilities industry portfolio. During his IBM career, Stephen held a number of Global, EMEA and UK senior management roles with experience spanning software and services, storage, and enterprise systems.

Stephen has a BSc honours degree in Physics and is married with four daughters.
